Beatrice "Bea" Couch

November 8, 1936 — February 9, 2021

Hyden, Kentucky

Beatrice Couch, better known as Bea to most was born in Hazard, Kentucky on November 08, 1936.  She was born to the union of the late Burtis and Annie Howard Couch.  Bea met the love of her life, Cornelouis "Carl" Couch, married him on September 26, 1953 in Lawrenceburg, IN and began a family.  She began working for the Leslie County Board of Education as a cook.  This endeavor led her into becoming the head cook of the former Big Creek Elementary.  There Bea cooked for and fed many students and teachers, many of which never forgot her.  She always made sure everyone had plenty to eat and no one left hungry.  The board made the decision to close the school 2007.  Bea stayed until the closing, she then retired after 44 years of dedicated service to the students & staff of Big Creek Elementary and the Leslie County Board of Education.

If you knew Bea, you knew Christ because she was a Godly light to everyone who knew her.  His love was evident in her life and she was steadfast in her faith.  She received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of her life in 1974.  She served the Lord for 47 years with complete sincerity and commitment to Him. She was a beloved and dedicated member of the Rockhouse Pentecostal Church at Hyden, Kentucky where she sat under the pastorship of her Grandson, Ted who she was very proud of.

Bea didn't like to be idle for any amount of time, so after her retirement she needed a little something extra to keep her busy.  Thats when she joined the family at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home as the greeter.  She greeted many families and friends of the community with a warm and inviting smile.  Everyone who came through the door knew Bea!  Often times if Bea wasn't at the door, they would ask "Where is Bea?"  She took great pride in all that she did, but especially being the greeter that everyone looked forward to seeing.

As many can attest, Bea was always a complete joy to be around.  Her personality was uplifting and her smile was contagious. If you were around Bea, you would surly leave her presence in a better spirit.  She was genuine, Godly, kind, compassionate and selfless.  Bea was out going and loved to travel.  When a trip was mentioned, she was ready to go at the drop of a hat!  She didn't care where, she would make the best of it.  She also had a great love for shopping trips.  Many times she would take shopping trips with a group of people, but none could shop more than Bea, she out-shopped them all!  In her former years, she enjoyed taking camping trips with her family on their annual trip to the Levi Jackson park.  She was also a seasoned cook, with numerous years of experience.

Above all, Bea loved her family with a genuine love and concern for each of them.  She was a beloved mommy, Mammaw, Granny, Gran, sister and Aunt Bea.

Bea's faith became sight on Tuesday, February 09, 2021.  Bea was 84 years old.

In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by her loving & devoted husband of 49 years, Cornelouis "Carl" Couch, two beloved sons, Eddie Dean Couch and Bobby Wayne Couch, one brother, Woodson Couch, two sisters, Nancy Miller and Ora Johnson and one cherished granddaughter, Selina Hoskins.

Survivors include her beloved children; two sons, Kenny Couch & wife, Teresa and Jerry Couch & wife, Martha, both of Hyden, KY, and two daughters, Brenda Hoskins & husband, Paul and Lisa Farmer & husband, Billy, both of Stinnett, KY.
