Let Us Cross The River & Rest On The Other Side Bernice Lewis was born Feb. 14th, 1930 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Otis Roberts and the late Lottie Spurlock Roberts. She departed this life on June 15th, 2010 at her residence; 80 years 4 months and 1 day of age. She was residing at 22091 Main Street Hyden at the time of her passing. She was a life long resident of Leslie County and by occupation she was a self employed merchant and store owner. She was the co-founder and owner of the former Lewis Market. She was also former owner of the Leslie County Telephone Company. She was a faithful member of the Hyden Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 40 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, collecting old family photos, music, and going to church. She was also an avid UK basketball and football fan. She is preceded in death by her parents: husband, John M. Lewis; 1 son, Roger Lewis; 1 grandson, Nicholas Lewis; 1 great-grandson, Maxwell Maggard; special friend, Gladys Begley. Bernice leaves the following surviving: 2 sons: Rick Lewis & Stephanie, of Hyden, KY, and Ronnie Lewis of Hyden, Ky; 1 loving and devoted daughter, Barbara Asher of Hyden, Ky. 2 sisters, Helen Madden & Elmer of Hyden, Ky; Lois Sizemore of Dayton, OH. 1 daughter-in-law: Carol Joseph & Peyton of Hyden, Ky. Special cousin Florence Muncy and special life long friend Jean Campbell. 12 grandchildren: Cindall Sizemore, Danielle Lewis, Kristy Holliday, Francesca Lewis Maggard, Aaron Asher, Matthew Asher, Andrew Asher, Sean Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Erika Hoskins, James Cox, and Andre Cox. 4 great-grandchildren: Micah Maggard, Hunter Asher, Wyatt Lewis Thomas and Sophia Asher. A host of special nieces, nephews, church family, other relatives and friends also survive.
