Mr. Charles Pence Jr., age 66 of Beech Bottom Rd, Wooton, Kentucky, husband of Brandy Pence, passed away, Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Charlie was a United States Veteran, having served honorably in the United States Army. Charlie started working for Leslie County Fiscal Court on June 21, 1991, working as a fire fighter, and ambulance personnel. He retired on October 01, 2014 with 22 years of service to Leslie County. In that time, he also was dispatch supervisor, (D.E.S.) Disaster Emergency Service Director. He had been the Leslie County 911 director for 14 years. He was a member of the Cutshin Fire Department, where he joined on July 23, 1990. There, he was the second fire chief of the department. Charlie held this position for 10 years. Charlie was instrumental in building the present fire station, and making sure all members received proper training. In 1994, Charlie assisted in starting the Cutshin Volunteer Ambulance Service. There were 8 Emergency Medical Technicians, 3 first responders, and 1 R.N., Charlie and wife, Brandy were two of those members. Charlie was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Charlie is survived by: his wife, Brandy Pence; one son: Tim Pence of Arizona, a step-son: Brandon McFerrin of Tennessee; two daughters: Shannon Gowin of Georgia, and Jenny Pence of Arizona; step-daughter: Corissa (Nikki) Baker of Indiana; one brother: Bill Pence of Texas and a sister: Carol of Indiana. Along with eleven grandsons, four granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren on the way; one God Son: Roger Jones of Dallas Texas; A host of other family and friends also survive his passing. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Beech Bottom Cemetery at Wooton, Kentucky with Dennis Curley officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Bottom Cemetery. Military Rites and Masonic Rites will be performed at the graveside. The family has entrusted Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home to be in charge of the arrangements.
