Charles E. Woods, respectfully known as Chuck, was born September 22, 1963, in Dearborn, MI, the middle child born to Olga Minjares Woods and the late John Woods.
Chuck was community minded and took pride in being involved. He attended leadership conferences so he could learn to better his role as a community leader. He served as a baseball coach for more than twenty years, coaching middle school as well as little league.
By occupation, Chuck was a certified electrician. In his former years, he worked for Shamrock Coal and Whitaker Coal. Later in life, Chuck started a guttering business that led to being successful for more than twenty years before retiring.
Not only was Chuck a faithful member of his community, but to his family and church as well. He was a dedicated member of the Panco Community Church at Panco, KY where he was recently ordained as a deacon. Whether it be his church, community or family in need, Chuck was just a phone call away. He willingly served in whatever capacity he was needed.
He was a seasoned corn hole player; he traveled to North Carolina, Wisconsin, Indiana and Tennessee to compete in competitions. He was nationally ranked in the top ten senior league.
After a hard-fought battle with illness, Charles “Chuck” Woods departed this walk of life on Sunday, December 11, 2022, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was 59 years old.
In addition to his father, Chuck was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Millard Woods, paternal great-grandmother, Sissy Woods, and maternal grandmother, Gabrielle Manjares. He is also preceded in death by his uncles, Charles Woods, Woody Woods, Scott Woods, Sylvester Manjares and Fred Arms. His aunts, Tenny Key, Rose Adams and Daisy Johnson.
Charles “Chuck” Woods leaves surviving his beloved mother, Olga Manjares Woods of Hazard, KY, one brother, Bill Woods of New Tazwell, TN and one sister, Debbie Wells (Joey) of Hazard, KY. His nephews, Jory Wells (Brittany) and Josh Wells both of Hazard, KY, one niece, Gabriella Bailey (Tyler) of Lexington, KY, two great nieces, Willow Wells and Meadow Wells, both of Hazard, KY. Two uncles, William Woods of Roscommon, MI and Harold Jones of Indianapolis, IN. A host of other relatives and friends also survive his passing.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at 2p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2022 in the chapel of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Jerry Rice and Roger Wolfe officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Townsend – Woods Cemetery at Hyden, KY.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 1p.m. – 2p.m. on Sunday at the chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
