Dora L. Allen

Dora L. Allen, 72, of Hyden, Kentucky, formerly of Hector, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Continue Care Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky.

Dora was born February 02, 1951 in Manchester, KY to the union of the late Brack and Laura Reid Allen.

Dora loved attending church and going to “Sonshine Camp” in Beattyville, KY.  She attended this camp for more than 25 years.  While attending camp, she competed in the special Olympics.  It was said that no one could catch her.  She also had a love for horses.

In addition to her parents, Dora was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry Woodson Reid, Leman, Stanley, and Harold Allen.

Dora leaves behind one brother, Gillis Allen (Kathy) of Manchester, KY, one sister, Phyllis White (Frank) of Louisville, KY and two sisters-in-law, who she loved as her own sister, Norma Allen of Essie, KY and Verda Reid of London, KY.  Dora was also survived by a special friend, Lora Caldwell and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2p.m. – Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home chapel with Patrick Morgan and Jerry Maggard officiating.  The reading of the obituary will be by her nephew, Eddie Allen.

The interment will follow the services at the Hughes Bowling Cemetery at Hector.

The Allen family will receive friends from 12noon until the service hour on Thursday at the chapel.

Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
