Earl Homer Collett (of Stinnett, KY) was born on July 16, 1928, in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Elmer and Delora Mosley Collett. Earl attended the Lees Junior College after high school, where he obtained an associates degree in teaching. He taught school at the old Rydner Branch Schoolhouse. He later worked as a grocery delivery person for London Dry Goods and a salesman for H&H Wholesale. Before establishing his own business, Earl worked for the East Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program where he worked for nearly 12 years. In 1974 he opened the Hill Top Market at Stinnett (Collett’s Farm & Feed); he operated Hill Top Market for more than 35 years before retiring. Earl was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Bowens Creek United Baptist Church at Essie, KY. He enjoyed fishing and in his younger years he enjoyed squirrel hunting. Earl had a kind and giving heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved everyone, especially children, and everyone loved him. Even though Earl worked tirelessly to provide for his family, he always made sure he spent quality time with them. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband, brother and friend to many.
Earl departed this walk of life on Monday, February 07, 2022 at the Mary Breckinridge A.R.H. Earl was 93 years old.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by two brothers, Freddie Joe and Kenneth Collett and three sisters, Susie Holland, Pauline Collett and Edith Collett.
Earl leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Gamble Collett to whom he wed on June 09, 2007; three sons: David Collett (Shandra) of Corbin, KY, Jimmy Caudill of Stinnett, KY and Jesse Lee Wooton of Frankfort, KY; three brothers, John Collett (Carolyn) of London, KY, Marcus Collett (Emily) of Roark, KY, and Doyle Collett of Indiana; four sisters, Fern Maxwell of TN, Joyce Hunley (Eugene) of Essie, KY, Geraldine Collett (Mason) of Essie, KY and Rosetta Sizemore (Steve) of Barbourville, KY; nine cherished grandchildren, Charles David Collett, Jr., Jaxxon Raylan Reed Collett, Kailey Harris, Brooklyn Harris, Hope Caudill, Adam Caudill, Doralee Coomer, Austin Brewer, Phillip Caudill, Charles Caudill and Jessica Wooton White; fourteen cherished great grandchildren, his pet companion and protector, Buddy. Earl also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. – Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Bowens Creek United Baptist Church with Taylor Adams & Carl Brown officiating.
Interment will follow at the Collett Cemetery at Essie, KY with Kenny Smith, Dean Collett, Charles Collins, Jamie Collett, Byron Roark, Derek Howard and Eric Young serving as pallbearers.
The Collett family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. – Thursday evening at the church.
