Mr. Edward Lee Carmack, age 74 husband of Wilma Sue Lewis Carmack passed away Tuesday April 01, 2014 at the Mary Breckinridge A.R.H. hospital in Hyden, Kentucky. Ed was a United States Army Veteran, he held the rank of captain. He served at various U.S. bases, including, Europe, Japan, Vietnam and China. He honorably served his country for twenty years in various assignments. He was commander over units, with up to seven hundred personnel. Ed was highly decorated, including the Medal of Honor. Ed attended the Lincoln Memorial University of Harrogate, TN, obtaining a Bachelors Degree. He was a former business owner of a carpet and furniture store. Ed was the former director of Leslie County High School Youth Services, he served in this position for five years. Also, he served as supervisor for J.T.P.A at L.K.L.P Community Center Action Agency. Edward was born March 13, 1940, in Claiborne County, Tennessee, to the union of the late John Henry and Juanita Martin Carmack. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Austin Tanner Carmack who passed away September 8, 2009, half brothers, Billy and Walter Hill. He is survived by his loving wife Wilma Sue Carmack of Yeaddiss, Ky., two sons Edward (Lorine) Carmack Jr., and Joey (Robin) Carmack of Yeaddiss, Ky., special grandson Edward Lee Carmack III of Yeaddiss, Ky. One daughter Kimberly Dawn Carmack of Florida. One brother: Kyle Carmack of Seville, Tennessee; Five sisters: Mary Phyllis England of Washburn, Tennessee, Barbara (Gary) Hall of Seville, Tennessee, Linda (Charles) Phelps, Sarah Buttery and Donna Thomas all of Middlesboro, Kentucky. Along with a host of very special nieces and nephews. * Military rites will be held by the Leslie County D.A.V. on Saturday following the funeral service.
