George Woods

Mr. George Woods, World War II Veteran, was born March 17, 1922 in Leslie County, KY, to the union of the late Henry Woods Sr. and the late Drucilla Napier Woods. He departed this walk of life on Friday, August 8, 2014 at his residence, at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 22 days. George spent his formative years in Ohio, where he and his wife Grace, were employed by the General Motors Company. After their retirement, they moved to Corbin, KY to reside. He was a resident of Bear Branch, KY, at the time of his passing. George was of the Southern Baptist Faith. He attended the Central Baptist Church in Corbin, KY, and was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church at Big Creek, KY at the time of his passing. George enjoyed reading the Bible, witnessing for the Lord, tinkering and traveling. He was proud to have served his Country and being a United States Army Veteran. George is preceded in death by: His wife, Grace; His parents: Henry and Drucilla Woods; Six Brothers: Hamlin, Willie, Pearl, Henry JR., Robert and Joe Woods; Two Sisters: Mary Dalton and Martha Avis Sparks. Mr. George Woods is survived by: One Sister: Elizabeth Day of Lebanon, IN; Special Nephew: William Woods and wife, Sharon of Bear Branch, KY; Special Friends: Raleigh and Cinda Morgan of Corbin, KY; Special Caregivers: Linda Sizemore and Linda Thomas; A host of cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roger Wolfe & Rev. Mark Back officiating. Burial will follow in the Woods Cemetery at Hyden, KY. Military rites will be performed by DAV Chapter 133 at the graveside. The Woods family will receive friends from 6-9 P.M., Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
