Mr. James Lee Skeens, age 81 of Wooton, Kentucky, departed this walk of life on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. James was born May 11, 1933 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Raymond Skeens and the late Dallie Hensley. He was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Opal Lee Campell on October 31, 1953. By occupation, James was a welder and Coal Miner. His hobbies included playing the guitar, hot rods, and rebuilding vehicles. In his younger years, he liked to spend the majority of his time outdoors. Other than his parents, James is preceded in death by one infant son: Roger; brothers: Curtis Morgan and David Nantz.
James is survived by, his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Opal Lee Skeens of Wooton, KY; six sons: Dannie (Maria) Skeens of San Diego, CA, Ronnie Skeens of Hazard, KY, Johnny Skeens of Hazard, KY, David (Katrina) Skeens of Wooton, KY, Randy Skeens of Wooton, KY, and Jerry (Kristine) Skeens of Knoxville, TN; one daughter: Patty Elrod of Clinton, TN; three brothers: Harold (Bonnie) Skeens of Wooton, KY, Bobby Gibson and Billy Gibson, both of North Carolina; one sister: Helen (Dave) Maggard of Irvine, KY; seventeen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, and a host of other cherished family and friends also survive his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. - Saturday, November 01, 2014 in the Chapel of the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor, Wayne Bowling and Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the Skeens Cemetery at Wooton, KY. The Skeens Family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. - Friday, October 31, 2014 at the funeral home chapel.
