James Matt Wells

J ames Matt Wells was born on January 22, 1940 at Smilax, Kentucky.  He was born to the union of the late Jason & Annie Vanover Wells.  James worked as a self-employed carpenter and was a member of the Smilax Church of Christ at Polls Creek.  James Matt was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family.  He was united in marriage to Nancy Eversole on July 11, 2020. James passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family on Monday, September 14, 2020.  James Matt was 80 years old.

In addition to his parents, James Matt was preceded in death by, his beloved wife, Lois Boggs Wells; two brothers, Archie and Homer Wells; sisters, Georgia Eversole, Rose Depoy, Emma Meade, Earl, Pearl, Hershel and Grace Wells; three brothers-in-law, Roy Fields, George Downey, and Tom Howard.

James Matt leaves behind, his wife, Nancy Eversole Wells; three sons, Bobby Wells & wife, Sandy of Somerset, KY, Gary Wells of Hazard, KY and James Wells & wife, LaVonda of Hoskinston, KY; three daughters, Theresa Reynolds & husband, Kenny of Medway, OH, Sandy Adams & husband, Doug of Wooton, KY and Rhonda Mills of Manchester, KY; three sisters, Melda Fields of Lebanon, IN, Lillian Downey of Union, OH, and Lela Howard of Oliver Springs; fourteen cherished grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. – Friday, September 18, 2020 at the Smilax Church of Christ at Polls Creek with Harold Turner and Danny Day officiating.  Interment will follow at the Jason Wells Cemetery at Smilax, KY.  The family will receive friends for visitation after 6:00 P.M. – Thursday evening at the church.
