Jesse Gary Pennington was born July 16, 1951 in Leslie County, a son of the late Isaac Pennington and Katherine Fields Pennington Wells. He had been a life-long resident of Leslie County and was residing at Smilax, Kentucky at the time of his passing. He was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginny” Adams, on December 19, 1969. He was a member of the Polls Creek Church of Christ at Smilax, KY and by occupation he was a retired coal miner, employed by Perry Co. (TECO) Coal. Jesse enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and four-wheeler riding with his dog, Roxy. He enjoyed the time he spent working as a miner, with more than 36 years of experience in the deep mines. Above all, Jesse cherished the time spent with family and friends.
He departed this life on Friday, December 03, 2021 at the age of 70.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his step -father, Archie Wells, father-in-law, Ralph Adams, step brothers, Archie and Paul Wells, nephew, Marty Pennington, great- niece, Emma Pace and his dog, Roxy.
Jesse leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Virginia “Ginny” Adams Pennington of Smilax, KY; three beloved daughters, Jennifer Dyer (Kelly) of Hindman, KY, Kristie Dixon (Jeff) of Hazard, KY and Jessica Pennington of Smilax, KY; three brothers, William Isaac Pennington (Dorothy) of Smilax, KY, Doug Pennington (Barbara) of Smilax, KY, and Gillis “Doc” Pennington (Wanda) of Wooton, KY; two sisters, Marie Dossett (Don) of London, KY and Angie Osborne (Paul) of Thousandsticks, KY; his beloved mother-in-law, Leila Adams of Smilax, KY; two step-sisters, Emma Lucas (Kenneth) and Linda Grover, both of NC; five cherished grandchildren, Adara, Rylee, Harold, Liana, and Liam; one cherished great-grandchild, Hailey. Jesse was also survived by a host of cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his brothers & sisters in Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm – Tuesday at the Polls Creek Church of Christ at Smilax, KY with Danny Day and Harold Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Adams Cemetery at Smilax, KY. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 pm – Monday evening at the chapel and from 11 am until the service hour on Tuesday at the church.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
