Jim Osborne was born on September 1, 1938, in Perry County, Kentucky, to the late Joseph Calvin "Joe" Osborne and Josephine Smith Osborne.
Jim had a distinguished career as a histologist, retiring in 2003 from the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, KY. A longtime prominent businessman in Perry County, he owned and operated Joe's Superette at Bulan, KY, for more than two decades, in addition to maintaining Osborne Grocery in Ary, KY. His commitment to his work exemplified his dedication to serving the community he loved and providing for his family.
He was a proud graduate of MC Napier High School, where he showcased his talent as a point guard on the basketball team. He later furthered his education at Morehead State University, earning an associate's degree.
Jim was not only known for his professional dedication but also for his passion for coaching. He devoted countless hours to coaching numerous baseball and basketball teams throughout the years, and he often led the “Dad Section” at cheerleading competitions, bringing joy and support to young athletes and his daughter's cheer team.
One of Jim's proudest accomplishments was his family. He married his loving wife, Lana Blair, on July 13, 1980, in Las Vegas, NV, establishing a partnership based on true love and mutual respect. Together they raised three children: Jen Osborne (Mike Mullins), Brittany Wolfe (Kyle), and Chris Osborne (Lacey), all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. Jim cherished his role as a devoted dad and "papaw" to his five grandchildren: Lauren Dishner, Presley Wolfe, Landry Osborne, Benjamin Wolfe, and Rhett Osborne. His love for his family was unwavering, and he instilled important values in them, ensuring his legacy would carry on.
A man of many interests, Jim found pleasure and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Many of Jim's days were spent piddling in the garage or at the pool in "HIS CHAIR", with shade and a cigar in his hand. He enjoyed sitting on the porch, appreciating a good cigar, bird watching, fishing, and engaging with his passion for ham radio communications (KA4AOU). His love for ham radio helped him cultivate many friendships and memories that have transcended the decades. His calm, humble, and respectful nature endeared him to all who knew him, and his ability to fix anything, both literally and figuratively, made him a dependable figure among family and friends.
Jim departed this life on Sunday, February 02, 2025 in Hazard, Kentucky. Jim was 86 years old.
Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, three proud children, one sister Brenda Sizemore (Dan), and two brothers Bill Tyo and John Tyo (Joyce). He also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.
