Leta Joyce Bailey was born in Hyden, Kentucky on June 18, 1942 to the late Albert and Faye Jones Shell. She attended Eastern Kentucky University after high school, then fell in love with her future husband, Bill. She was united in marriage to Bill Bailey on September 19, 1963 in Jonesville, VA. Leta was a proud wife and a beloved homemaker. While Bill worked long hours, Leta always made sure that everything was in tip top shape at home. From yard work, to cleaning inside and out, to having meals prepared, she went above and beyond to make life as easy and comfortable as possible. Her favorite music was Country and Bluegrass Gospel. Her hobbies included going to the lake, fishing, camping, and colleting baby dolls. She had a vast collection of cabbage Patch dolls. Leta always enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her family; holidays were her favorite. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was proud of her family, especially her grandchildren.
She departed from this walk of life on Monday, April 18, 2022 at the age of 79.
In addition to her parents, Leta was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete Shell and Jim Roberts.
Leta leaves surviving her two beloved children; son: Paul Bailey (Marlene) of Hyden, KY and daughter: Rhonda Leddington (Eugene) of Stinnett, KY, three brothers: Bob Shell of Hoskinston, KY, Larry Shell (Linda) of Hyden, KY and Gary Shell (Ruthann) of Hoskinston, KY, one sister: Donna Clark (Rod) of Hyden, KY, four cherished grandchildren, Ashley Hacker (Ben), Lucas Leddington, Jesalyn Maggard and Casey Maggard; two cherished great grandchildren, Bentley and Maverick Hacker. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. – Thursday at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Geoffrey Roberts officiating.
Interment will follow in the Shell Family Cemetery at Chappell, KY
The Bailey family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. – Wednesday evening at the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
