Mr. Lowell Cornett was born June 05, 1950 in Perry County, Kentucky to the union of the late Marlin Cornett, Sr. and Ruby Halcomb Cornett. By occupation, Lowell was a retired coal miner. Lowell departed this life on Saturday, December 04, 2021 at his residence where he resided with his beloved wife Alma Jean Coots Cornett and two special family members, Melissa Day and Bailey Estep. He was 71 years old.
Lowell enjoyed fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He liked watching wrestling, tinkering with cars and fixing things. But most of all, Lowell enjoyed spending time with his family. It would put a smile on his face and a light in his eyes when his family would come to visit. He loved to joke and laugh. He cared deeply and loved his family wholeheartedly.
Although, he struggled with his own health, without hesitation, he was always ready to care for another. He would gladly give his family his last dollar or break his own back to carry the load that was too heavy for another.
In addition to his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by three beloved children, Deborah Bailey, Tim Coots and Darlene Cornett Coots; mother of his children, Shirley Kilburn.
Lowell leaves surviving his loving & devoted wife, Alma Jean Cornett of Smilax, KY; two very special family members, Melissa Day and Bailey Estep, both of Smilax, KY; one son, Anthony Cornett (Crystal) of Yeaddiss, KY; two daughters, Sandra Davidson (Greg) of Yeaddiss, KY, and Tammy Shepherd (Kenny) of Georgetown, KY; four brothers, Lloyd Cornett (Anita) of Leatherwood, KY, Roger Cornett (Doris) of Leatherwood, KY, Marlin Cornett, Jr., (Geneva) of LaFollette, TN and Joda Lee Cornett (Minnie Gail) of Leatherwood, KY; five sisters, Shirley Couch (Raleigh) Speedwell, TN, Norma Mayhew (Greg) of Benham, KY, Geri Edward (Billy ”Blab”) of Speedwell, TN, Nellie Smith (Hobart) of Leatherwood, KY and Lisa Suttles (David) of Speedwell, TN; eight grandchildren, Ashley Hacker, Samantha Davidson, Kasey Davidson, Debra Ray Coots, Polly Coots, Kaitlyn Cornett, Dustin Shepherd and Chad Shepherd; twelve great-grandchildren, Bentley Hacker, Maverick Hacker, Iris Raylene Wooton, Ruby Jane Wooton, Brantley Cole Cornett, Robbie Ray Roark, Theodore Fields, Marleigh Puckett, Leyton Puckett, Chesney Shepherd, Deacon Shepherd and Everly Shepherd. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm – Friday in the chapel of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Levi Coots Cemetery at Smilax, KY. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 Thursday evening at the chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
