Lula Baker Wells

LULA BAKER WELLS, of Granny Fork Road, Smilax, Kentucky was welcomed into the arms of her loving savior on Thursday, April 07, 2016. She was 73 years, 04 months and 11 days of age. She was born December 27, 1942 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late John D. and Della Fouts Baker. Lula was a life-long resident of Leslie County and a beloved charter member of the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, Kentucky. Lula was united in marriage to her loving and devoted husband, Willis Wells in Hyden, Kentucky on September 10, 1960. Lula was a retired postal worker. She was the former post mistress of the Smilax post office and the Viper post office. She worked at Baker's Restaurant and the Mountain Manor Restaurant for many years before becoming disabled. After becoming disabled, she spent time sewing, cutting out quilt patterns and making quilts for her family and friends. Lula loved her family. She loved to cook, sew and make quilts for all of them when she was able, especially the grandchildren. If she heard of someone liking something, she had to make one for them! She was a beloved grandmother who cherished spending time with her grandchildren. Other than her parents, Lula was preceded in death by, her loving and devoted husband, Willis Wells (May 10, 2009), two brothers, Rufus and Grover Baker, sister, Iness Singletary, two nephews, Kenny Baker and Chris Day, two great-nephews, Charles "Bub" Day and Zachary Ulenchong.

Lula leaves surviving, one son and her caretaker, Eddie Wells of Smilax, KY, one daughter and her caretaker, Maxine Wells Shepherd (Mark) of Smilax, KY, two grandchildren, Misty Pool (Trent) of London, KY and Jonathon Shepherd (Christy) of Hyden, KY, three great-grandchildren, Caleb Shepherd, Emily Pool and Trenton Pool, two sisters, Beulah Callahan of Hyden, KY and Mary Ellen Day (Charles Ray) of Catlettsburg, KY, brothers-in-law, Eldon Wells (Lois) and Denver Day, sisters-in-law: Ruthie Baker, and her son, Hurlen who were also devoted caretakers for Lula, Beth Baker, Sally Wells, Lillian Wells and Shirley Fields, a host of nieces and nephews who she cherished and loved so much, special caretaker and friend, Renee Lewis, her loving and devoted pastor & lifetime family friend, Rev. Billy Joe Lewis. She is also survived by all of her church family at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ that she loved so very much.

Services for Lula Baker Wells will be held at 12:00 Noon, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, KY with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at the Dewey Wells Cemetery at Smilax, KY. The family will receive friends for visiting hours from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., Saturday evening at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ.
