Mary L. Joseph was born March 16, 1939 in Leslie County, a daughter of the late Wilson and Recey Pennington Baker. Mary had been a life-long resident of Leslie County and was residing at Wooton, Kentucky. She was of the Church of Christ faith and was a dedicated member of the Smilax Church of Christ. Mary was united in marriage to Elvin Joseph on August 24, 1956 at Cinda, Kentucky. And to this union, they brought forth two beloved children, Elvin and Recia. Mary was a beloved homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mary devoted her life to the care and raising of her family. She cared for them with a genuine love and concern. Every spring, Mary would grow beautiful flowers and every summer she helped her husband, Elvin in the garden. Above all, she enjoyed sitting on her porch watching hummingbirds.
Mary departed this walk of life on February 02, 2022 at the Mary Breckinridge A.R.H. Hospital in Hyden, KY. Mary was 82 years old.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded death by three brothers, Pearl, Harvey and Dennis Baker.
Mary Leaves behind her loving & devoted husband of 65 years, Elvin Joseph of Wooton, KY, two beloved children, her son, Elvin Joseph, Jr. & wife, Irene of Knoxville, TN and her daughter, Recia Lewis & husband, Anthony of Wooton, KY. Other survivors include, two brothers, Paul Baker & wife, Jewell of Mt. Vernon, KY and James Baker & wife, Margaret of Lancaster, KY, three sisters, Loretta Steele & husband, Mike of Lexington, KY, Marie Day of Smilax, KY and Margaret Day & husband, Clinton of Lancaster, KY, one cherished grandson, Eric Whitaker & Fiancé, Stephanie and cherished great grandchildren, Paxton, Imogen, Taylor, Isaiah, and Kynlee . A host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m.- Monday, February 07, 2022 at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Danny Day and Harold Turner officiating.
Interment will follow at the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, KY.
The Joseph family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour at 1p.m., Monday at the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
