Ms. Mavie Joseph, born April 14, 1918 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Bradley Pennington and the late Nannie Callahan Pennington. Mavie departed this walk of life on Monday, October 08, 2012 at the Hazard Health & Rehab Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She was 94 - years, 05 - months and 24 - days of age at the time of her passing. Mavie was a life long resident of Leslie County, Kentucky. She raised her family and spent most of her years residing at Smilax, Kentucky. She was united in marriage to her loving husband, Alfred who precedes her in death. Mavie was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, gardening and working to keep her flowers beautiful. She was a homemaker and caretaker. Mavie was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the Smith Camp Pentecostal Church at Smilax, Kentucky and the 11th Hour Worship Center at Hazard, Kentucky. Mavie is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Alfred Joseph; 2 - sons: Edward and David Joseph; 2- step sons: Bill and Jr. Joseph; 1- daughter: Eunice Stidham; 3 - step daughters: Marcella Shepherd, Eunice Joseph and Martha Jane Chandler; 8- brothers: Felix, Edmond, Kenneth, Eugene, Jimmy, Isaac, Andy and Arthur Pennington. Ms. Mavie Joseph leaves surviving the following relatives: 4 - sons: Bradley Joseph (June) of Smilax, KY, Paul Joseph (Nola) of Wooton, KY, James Andy Joseph of Seymour, IN and Cletis Wells (Oma) of Smilax, KY; 1 - step son: Elvin Joseph (Mary) of Wooton, KY; 4 - daughters: Nannie Howard, Mary Rose McIntosh (Ronnie), Sarah Jane McIntosh (Dave) and Emily Cummins (Bobby) all of Seymour, IN; 1 - step daughter: Bertha Helton of Salyersville, KY; 2 - brothers: John L. Pennington and Bradley Pennington, Jr. (Frankie) both of Berea, KY; 2 - sisters: Goldie Bailey of Berea, KY and Alpha Bauman of Brooksville, IN; Special Friend: Betty Wells; 60 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 25 great - great grandchildren also survive. Funeral Services will be Conducted for Ms. Mavie Joseph at 11:00 A.M. - Thursday, October 11, 2012 from the Chapel of the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home in Hyden with grandsons: Paul Terry Joseph and Keith Joseph officiating. Burial will follow the services at the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, KY. The family of Ms. Joseph will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at the funeral home chapel. Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home in charge.
