Maynard Baker

Mr. Maynard Baker, age 72, of Hyden, Kentucky departed this life on Sunday, February 01, 2015 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Maynard was born July 13, 1942 in Stinnett, Kentucky to the union of the late Walter and Chaney Smith Baker. He was a life long resident of Leslie County with the exception of having lived in Florida for a short time. By occupation, Maynard was a former business owner, and most recently, he was a heavy equipment operator. Maynard enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was an avid NASCAR and UK Fan. In his formative years, Maynard enjoyed participating in dirt track racing.

Other than his parents, Maynard is preceded in death by seven sisters: Retha Hammersley, Eva Morgan, Margaret Cox, Grace Howard, Rose Asher, Alice Faye Taylor, and Doris Estridge; two brothers: Sandy Mack Baker, and Miller Baker.

Maynard is survived by one son, Jamey Baker (Beth) of Somerset, KY; three daughters: Martha Ann Burton (Sherman) of Columbia, KY, Melinda Whitaker (David) of Avawam, KY, and Joy Williams (Scott) Winchester, KY; brother: John Baker (Martha) of Nancy, KY; two sisters: Pauline Roberts of Essie, KY and Barbara Brock of Rutledge, TN; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, February 04, 2015 in the chapel of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the Baker Family Cemetery at Essie, KY. The Baker family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 03, 2015 at the funeral home chapel.
