Onzie Gibson Baker of Oneida, KY was born December 17, 1933 in Leslie Co. to the union of the late Estill and Mallie Buttree Gibson. She had been a life-long resident of Leslie and Clay Counties.
Onzie dedicated over seventeen years of her life to serving as a cook the Oneida Baptist Institute before eventually retiring. Following her retirement, she pursued her love for flowers as the proud owner and operator of Baker Florist, where she poured her heart into creating beautiful arrangements for her clients.
A woman of faith, Onzie's proudest accomplishment was being a devoted member of the Laurel Creek Church of God. Her unwavering faith and kindness were evident in all aspects of her life, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Onzie is survived by her sister Lois Osborne of Somerset, KY, who shared a special bond with her throughout the years. She also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, other cherished family and friends.
Onzie was preceded in death by her parents, Estill and Mallie Buttree Gibson, her husband Tom Baker, her brothers Tester, Silas, and Howard Gibson, and her sisters Vernie Baker, Esther Rice, Pairlee Gibson, Ocie Woods, and Bessie Rice.
Funeral services to honor Onzie's life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 1p.m. at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home in Hyden, Kentucky with Brad Stevens and Virgil Gibson officiating.
Interment will follow the services at the Gibson Branch Cemetery at Sizerock, KY.
A visitation will take place Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home chapel.
