Rev. Orphas Smith, 69 of Indianapolis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 18, 2016. He was born September 27, 1946 to the union of the late Roy and Rose Smith in Stinnett, Kentucky. He came to Indianapolis at the age of 18 and resided there until his death. He loved the Lord and sharing His word. He formerly pastored the New Hope United Baptist Church in Lawrence. He loved to sing bluegrass gospel music. He traveled and sang all over the United States. He served people at the Goodwin Center as well. He loved country cooking, fishing and most of all, his family. He was currently a member at First United Evangelical Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Orphas Smith is preceded in death by, his sister, Kathleen Parsley and his brother, Lonnie Smith.
Survivors include, his loving and devoted wife, Janet, one daughter, Missy Vidito, one son, Anthony Smith, three step-sons, James Marroquin, Romeo Marroquin and William Taboada, three sisters, Erma Wallace of Stinnett, KY, Lucille Caldwell of Louisville, KY, Hilda Brock (Terry) of Hoskinston, KY and one brother, Roy Smith, Jr. (Sandy) of Macon, GA, as well as his twelve cherished grandchildren; Alena, Abigail, Allyssa, Alexis, Vanessa, Jacob, Emillie, Gabriel, Sean, Liam, Sofia and Victor.
Funeral services for Rev. Orphas Smith will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Stinnett Pentecostal Church with Rev. James Bowling, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Cemetery at Stinnett, Kentucky. The family will receive friends for visitation after 6:00 P.M., Tuesday evening at the church.
