Robert Junior Smith, age 68 of Knob Lick Rd., Stinnett, Kentucky, passed away, Tuesday at the Mary Breckinridge A.R.H in Hyden, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Monroe and Ellen Smith. He was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Vanda Lewis Smith on November 07, 1970. By occupation, he was a former coal miner, working for 36 years until his retirement. Junior enjoyed hunting, especially with his son, Ricky. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, Katie and Shayden. He enjoyed gardening with his wife, Vanda, and daughter, Michelle, fishing, and raising beagle dogs. He liked to work on old cars and being a mechanic. He loved his family and grandchildren. Always joking and smiling. Junior was a great neighbor and friend to everyone who knew him. He was a very compassionate man. He was married to his loving wife, Vanda for nearly 44 years. He was a loving husband, dad and grandfather. He was preceded in death by: his parents: Monroe and Ellen Smith; one brother: Dennis Smith; three sisters: Zilphia Mattingly, Ann Roberts Henry, and Irene Kertize; beloved grandson: Jason Baker; father & mother-in-law: Albert and Ruby Lewis. Junior is survived by: his loving wife, Vanda Lewis Smith of Stinnett, Ky; one son: Ricky Albert Bowling & wife, Mary Disney Bowling of Stinnett, Ky; one daughter: Michelle Smith Baker of Stinnett, Ky; three brothers: Elisha Smith & wife, Jewell of Barbourville, Ky, Barney Smith and wife, Sue of Hyden, Ky, Eddie Dean Smith and wife, Jeanette of Manchester, Ky; six sisters: Margaret Hoskins of London, Ky, Virginia Smith of Thousandsticks, Ky, Jean Simpson & husband, Joe of Stinnett, Ky, Helen Bailey & husband, David of Roark, Ky, Kathleen Osborne & husband, Sherdian of Thousandsticks, Ky, and Alene Adams of Hyden, Ky. Along with three cherished grandchildren: Katie Ruth Bowling, Shayden Aspen Baker, and Jerry Wayne Baker; special friend and son-in-law: Billy Wayne Baker. A host of other family and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Disney officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery on Knob Lick Road, Stinnett, Ky. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday.
