Robert E. Turner was born September 29, 1958, in Leslie County, KY to the late Arthur and Lula Mae Wells Turner.
Robert had been a life-long resident of Leslie County and was currently residing in Hyden, KY. By occupation, Robert was a coal miner, employed by Shamrock Coal Co. for more than 15 years. He later went on to work as the head custodian at the Stinnett Elementary School as well as a bus driver. Lastly, he worked as an equipment operator and truck driver for E & J Construction.
Robert was always friendly with all whom he encountered; he had a kind and outgoing personality. Robert took great pride in his work. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his fruit trees, agriculture, and horses. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his beloved wife and grandchildren.
Robert departed this life after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 05, 2023, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY at the age of 64.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by four brothers, Jerry, Lee, Woodrow, and Lester. As well as two sisters, Vivian Lewis and Sueann Adams.
Robert is survived by his loving & devoted wife, Zona Osborne Turner to whom he wed on November 27, 1992, two sons, Mitchell Turner and B.J. Turner, both of Hyden, KY. One brother, William Harold Turner (Jean) of Richmond, KY, one sister, Ruth Wells (William) of Smilax, KY, six cherished grandchildren, Abelardo Junior Lorenzo, Riley Turner, Logan Turner, Noah Turner, Greyson Turner, and Alexa Turner. A host of other family and friends also survives his passing.
The funeral service will be held at 2p.m. – Saturday, September 09, 2023 at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Pastor Joey Burns officiating.
Interment will follow the service at the Woods Cemetery at Thousandsticks, KY with Harrison Kilburn, Jason Turner, David Watts, B.J. Turner, Mitchell Turner, and Riley Turner serving as pallbearers.
The Turner family will receive friends for visitation from 6p.m. – 9p.m. Friday evening at the chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
