Rose (Wells) Mitchell

R ose Mitchell was born in Hyden, KY on March 21, 1932, a daughter of the late Matt and Mallie Maggard Wells.  Rose was a homemaker and had been a life-long resident of Leslie County.  Rose was a devout Christian and steadfast in her faith.  She was a beloved and faithful member of the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, KY.  She spent her life serving the Lord and tending to her family.  Her children and her grandchildren were the joy of her life.  She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for everyone.  You never left her presence hungry.  If you did, it was your fault.  She enjoyed working in her flower garden, listening to Gospel music and cooking.  In former years, she enjoyed quilting.  Above all, she cherished being a mother & grandmother.

Rose departed this walk of life on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the age 90.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Mitchell, two infant children, Linda and Ricky, three sons, George, Everett and David; three daughters, Pauline Cress, Betty Miniard, and Ann Mitchell; three brothers: Felix, Lonis and Jim Wells six sisters, Mildred Campbell, Lois Wells, Jane Boggs, Mary Begley, June Joseph and Dorothy Brown.

Rose leaves surviving five beloved children, three sons: Lonis Mitchell (Marie) of London, KY, Larry Mitchell (Mavie) of Tazwell, TN, and Jeff Mitchell of Yeaddiss, KY; two daughters: Dallie Maggard (Carl) of Delphia, KY and Kathy Shepherd of Hazard, KY.  Other survivors include, one sister, Linda Maggard of Smilax, KY, twenty-six grandchildren: Brian, Glenn, Kim, Harrison, Theresa, Michael, Keith, Tim, Steve, Brian, Ryan, Davina, Tammy, David Wayne, Renee, Calvin, Ronnie, Jessica, Andrew, Alisha, Breanna, Cody, Julia, Adam, Amanda, and Justin; fourty-three great grandchildren: Eric, Roxanne, Alex, Paula, Savannah, Megan, Katie, Ashley, Sarah, Liam, T.J., Alexis, Brad, Daniel, Jacob, Katrina, Rose, Stephen, Ashley, Hayden, Abby, Tanielle, Kristen, Madison, Jareth, Haley, Hannah, Makayla, Mikey, Makenzie, Connor, Kiana, Chase, Mahaley, Makenna, Maddie, Aidon, Stephen, Carter, Kelsey, Leah, Myles, Eva and Kyra; fourteen great-great grandchildren, Oui, Soskuke, Alex, Lindsey, Jayden, Kinley, Baxton, Jerrik, Hollis, Trey, Tessa, Keira, Jayde and Baby Rice; her favorite dog, KODA.  A host of other family and friends also survive.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm – Thursday, May 05, 2022 at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, KY with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mitchell Family Cemetery at Yeaddiss, KY with David Wayne Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Andrew Maggard, Ronnie Mitchell, Calvin Mitchell, Glenn Mitchell, Freddy Paul Campbell and Jareth Hacker serving as pallbearers.

The Mitchell family will receive friends from 6-9 pm – Wednesday at the church.
