Ruth Wooton Hamilton was born in Leslie County on July 17, 1926, to the union of the late Ted and Samantha Huff Wooton.
Ruth's journey in education began humbly, teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. Her commitment to teaching led to a remarkable career spanning 33 years with the Leslie County Board of Education. Throughout her tenure, Ruth witnessed numerous changes in the educational landscape but remained steadfast in her dedication to shaping young minds.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ruth will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and her regular contributions to charitable causes close to her heart. She valued education greatly and instilled the same value in those around her.
The bond she had with her siblings was unbreakable. She and her sisters would take an annual sister's trip, traveling to a different destination every year. This time with her sisters she treasured, and they made life-long memories.
Described as creative and intelligent, Ruth, an avid gardener, had also worked as a florist and enjoyed creating flower arrangements. She also enjoyed various other hobbies such as traveling, sewing, cooking, reading, and indulging in crossword puzzles. Her interests were as diverse as her personality, reflecting a life richly lived.
Ruth was a long-time beloved member of the Hyden Baptist Church where she displayed exemplary faithfulness through active participation in church activities. She was a Sunday school teacher, as well as a regular Vacation Bible School volunteer. Even through the trials in her life, her faith never wavered.
On Monday, June 17th, 2024, Ruth departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior at the Mary Breckinridge A.R.H. Hospital in Hyden, Ky. Ruth was 97 years old.
Ruth is survived by her beloved daughter Chesney Ruth Muncy and son-in-law Philip of Hyden, KY; one brother Jerry Wooton and wife Brenda of Hyden; five sisters Lillian Judd of Hyden, KY, Margaret Bowling of Avawam, KY, Nadine Shepherd and husband Omus of Hyden, KY, Aileen Hawes and husband Wendall of Louisville, KY, and Dr. Joyce Jean Hamberg and husband James of Southgate, KY; Her cherished grandchildren Dr. Robin Muncy Whitaker, Lillian Chestina Muncy (Terry Couch), and Philip John Muncy; her cherished great-grandchildren James Connor Whitaker, Philip Austin Muncy, Taylor Ruth Lynn Couch, Noah Allen Couch, and Hunter Greyson Muncy; along with many treasured nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family, friends and members from the church.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Ted and Samantha Wooton; paternal grandparents John & Sarah Jane Napier Wooton; maternal grandparents William Tecumseh Huff and Mary Huff Wooton; husbands Chester Bowling "Junior", Orvid Beasley Stone, Silas Begley Bowling, John Robert Hamilton Jr.; children Robin Wynona Stone and Terry Lynn Bowling; sisters Rose Wooton, Joanna Wooton, Betty Janice Wooton, and Mary Wooton Henderson; a grandson Adam Bowling; her daughter-in-law Malissa Ann Sizemore Bowling; nephews Theodore "Ted" W. Morgan, Billy Henderson III, Dwight Anthony "Tony" Francis and Robert William Bendall.
The funeral service for Ruth Wooton Hamilton will be held at 1p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, Ky. Pallbearers will be Philip John Muncy, James Connor Whitaker, Philip Austin Muncy, Noah Allen Couch, Devin Gross and Terry Couch.
The family will receive friends from 6p.m. - 9p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 evening at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
