Stephie Colwell, 68, a life-long resident of Hyden and Leslie County departed this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Confluence, KY. He was one of twelve children, born in Hyden, KY to the late Reuben Colwell and the late Elsie Howard Rice on March 29, 1956.
By occupation, Stephie was a long-time coal miner. After leaving the mines, Stephie worked compassionately as a grave digger until he was unable to do so. He later worked with the Leslie County Road Dept. under the administration of Allen Muncy. Lastly, he worked many years for Begley Lumber mill.
Throughout his life, Stephie developed a love for old classic cars. This was his greatest joy. He spent countless hours repairing and restoring these cars back to beauty,
Stephie loved people and enjoyed talking with anyone that came his way. Aside from classic cars and just enjoying life’s simple treasures, Stephie enjoyed four-wheeling and spending time with his family.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Stephie was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Stokes, the mother of his children Connie Wooton Caldwell and life-long friend Ronnie Huff.
Stephie leaves surviving his two beloved children, son Steven Ray Caldwell (Jennifer) and daughter Stephanie Combs (Chucky), both of Hyden, KY. His pet companion and beloved dog "Sissy". Six brothers Asberry Caldwell (Deborah) of Russell Springs, KY, Daymon Caldwell of Sarasota, FL, Dwayne Rice of Sarasota, FL, Doug Rice of London, KY, Tony Caldwell of West Carrollton, OH and Stanley Eugene Caldwell of Dayton, OH. Four sisters Loretta Bowman of Sarasota, FL, Cathy Hardin of Sarasota, FL, Sabrina Stacy and Chloe Caldwell, both of Bearbranch, KY. Four cherished grandchildren Dylan Combs, Jessa Combs, Jennarae Caldwell, and Colton Caldwell.
Other survivors include her mother in-law Nancy Wooton of Busy, Ky, one sister-in-law Rhonda Watts (Charles) of Busy, KY, two brothers-in-law Rick Wooton (Rita) of Thousandsticks, KY and Ronnie Wooton (Malia) of Busy, KY. Special nieces and nephews Chelsey Caldwell, Crystal Caldwell, Chasidy Caldwell, Cierra Caldwell, Dwight Watts, Brandon Watts, Justin Watts, Crishina Maggard, Eli Wooton, Lucy Wooton, Renee, Amber Wooton, Eric Wooton, Arron Wooton, Zachary Stacy, Timothy Stacy, Jacqueline Stacy, Rhonda Hacker, and Natasha Morgan. Special friends Delano Huff, Dean Woods, Adam Hensley, and Karen Martin. A host of other treasured nieces, nephews, , relatives, and friends also survive.
The funeral service for Stephie will be held at 1p.m. Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Confluence Baptist Church with Jimmy Dean Feltner officiating.
Interment will follow in the Wooton – Watts Cemetery at Busy, KY with Rick Wooton, Ronnie Wooton, Tony Caldwell, Steven Tankersley, Brandon Watts, Justin Watts, Cody Adams, Steven Caldwell, Charles Watts, Wayne Collett and Justin Frusher serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 5p.m. Sunday evening at the Confluence Baptist Church.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
