Viola (Wells) Pollard

Viola Wells Pollard was born on November 28, 1923 at Daley, KY, a daughter of the late Floyd Wells and the late Alpha Browning Wells.  She was united in marriage to William O. Pollard on October 10, 1944.  She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Wooton Baptist Church.  Viola was always ready for a new challenging adventure.  She started her last business with her best friend and daughter-in-law, Ollie at the age of 96.  Viola was well seasoned and served in many occupations during the span of her life.  She was a former schoolteacher, factory operator, during WWII, supporting war efforts.  She also worked as a merchant, bookkeeper, manager and secretary.

Viola departed this walk of life, peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 15, 2021.  She was 97 years of age.

In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her loving & devoted husband, William O. Pollard, two beloved sons, Chelsea Wayne Pollard and Michael Glenn Pollard, brothers, Denver, George, Elmer,  and Burley Wells; an infant brother, Clinton Wells; sisters, Lena Wells Morgan, Polly Wells Maggard; granddaughter Tama Pollard, a daughter-in-law, Carol Luna Pollard, brothers-in-law, Boyd Morgan, Felix Engle, Junior France, and Chris Maggard; sisters-in-law, Laura Wells, Ruby Gail Wells and Freda Wells; two cherished nephews, David Morgan and Greg Wells.

Viola leaves surviving, three beloved sons, William O. “Enos” Pollard & Ollie of Smilax, KY, James D. Pollard of Smilax, KY and Robert Curtis Pollard & Lenora of Hindman, KY; one beloved daughter, Barbara A. Pennington & Doug of Smilax, KY; two brothers, Otis Wells & Lois of London, KY, and Richard Wells & Gail of Smilax, KY; three sisters, Irene Engle of OHIO, Doris Williams & Otis of Keavy, KY, and Lorraine France of Smilax, KY.  One special sister-in-law, Janeth Day Wells; seventeen cherished grandchildren, twenty-five cherished great-grandchildren, thirteen cherished great-great grandchildren and one to be in May.  A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm – Thursday, November 18, 2021 in the chapel of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Ronnie Wells officiating.  Interment will follow the services at the Floyd Wells Cemetery at Smilax, KY with William Pollard, Steven Pollard, Roger Pollard, Christopher Leary, Adam Leary and Austin Asher serving as pallbearers. The family will receive Viola’s close friends, family and people who knew her for visitation from 12 noon until the service hour at 2pm on Thursday at the funeral home chapel.
