Mr. William O. "Bill" Pollard was born June 22, 1922 in Carter County, OK. He was born to the union of the late Almer and Cecil Ora Ballard Pollard. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He was 89 Years of age and was residing at 2000 Cutshin Road, Wooton, KY at the time of his passing. He was united in marriage to his loving wife Viola Well Pollard on October 10, 1944. Bill was a United States Army veteran, having served proudly on the Burma Road in World War II. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Wooton, there he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Hyden Lodge. By occupation Bill worked in his formative years for Montgomery Ward in Austin, TX. He was also the owner of the former Smilax Lumber Company at Smilax, KY. After working and retiring from the lumber company, Bill worked at J.C. Penny Department Store in Hazard, KY. He was a former Leslie County School board member and served as president of the girl's Little League softball. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Wayne and Michael Pollard, one brother and two sisters. Bill leaves behind the following relatives. His loving and devoted wife: Viola Wells Pollard of Smilax, KY. Three sons: Enos & Ollie Pollard, JD & Carol Pollard and Robert & Lenore Pollard. One daughter: Barbara & Doug Pennington. Two brothers: Gearld & Jimmy Joe Pollard, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A host of other family and friends also survive his passing.
