W illie Boggs of Polls Creek Road, Smilax, Kentucky departed this walk of life on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Willie was born August 15, 1931 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Robert and Mae Lewis Boggs. Willie had been a life-long resident of Leslie County. He was united in marriage to his love, Geneva Williams on November 17, 1952. Willie served his country honorably in the United States Army. He had a love for his country and was proud to have served. In 2016, Willie had the privilege to take part in the "Honor Flight - Kentucky", a mission to fly World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans to Washington DC for a one day visit to their memorials that are dedicated to their service and sacrifices. Willie was a member of the Green Mount Baptist Church and the Masonic Order, Hyden Lodge # 664. Willies hobbies included gardening and woodworking. He was an avid gardener, during gardening season, you could always find Willie in his garden planting or harvesting. Above all, Willie had an undying love for his grandchildren, especially his great-grandson, Hayden. He was the twinkle in his eye. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Willie was 86 years old.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Boggs; three sisters, Birtha Boggs, Maine Boggs, and Nadine Wells; a granddaughter, Savannah Boggs.
Willie leaves behind, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Geneva Williams Boggs of Smilax, KY; three beloved sons, Glen Boggs & wife, Debbie of Smilax, KY, Rick Boggs & wife, Robin of Hyden, KY, and Jeff Boggs of Science Hill, KY; two beloved daughters, Glenna Pratt & husband, John, and Rebecca Maggard & husband, Wayne, both of London, KY; six brothers, Ray Boggs & wife, Louise of Lily, KY, James Boggs & wife, Linda of Corbin, KY, Johnny R. Boggs & wife, Donna of Louisville, KY, Robert Boggs, Jr. & wife, Deborah of Corbin, KY, Ernie Boggs & wife, Alberta of Broadhead, KY, and Larry Michael Boggs of Corbin, KY; one sister, Shirley Boggs & husband, Roger of Corbin, KY; sister-in-law, Marissa Boggs of Corbin, KY; six cherished grandchildren, Natasha Gay & husband, Wendall, Whitney Fugate & husband, Jay, Tori Boggs, Hannah Maggard, Brent Pratt and Emily Pratt & Brian; one treasured great-grandson, Hayden Gay; one great-granddaughter to be, Marlie Fugate; two honorary granddaughters, Olivia Farmer, and Katrina Collins; special friend, Sam Fields. A host of other family and friends also survive his passing.
